South Asian Earthquake
I hope I'm in line with posting this here... after all, this is for another humanitarian relief effort... but tell me if it breaks the rules or anything.

There is just so much happening in the world that it scares me where we're going. We've not even recovered from the hurricanes, only to be hit by another disaster, this time in Pakistan and Kashmir. These people need a lot of help. They have no food or water or shelter. Entire families have been wiped out. Children have died as their schools collapsed around them. The dead are lying in the open.

I am appealing to everyone in this community to donate to or at least remember the people of South Asia in your prayers. I am having trouble making the donation, but in the mean time I don't want to sit around feeling like I am not doing anything. The Red Cross and Red Crescent Society has set up an appeal for this event, and for everyone who donates to this cause I'm willing to:

a) make graphics - icons, banners, headers, story manips etc
b) write drabbles - almost any topic, character, situation, pairing.

(my only restriction is that I do not write slash or create slash-oriented graphics, or anything more than a very soft R for het. It is a matter of religious beliefs. Otherwise I'm open to almost anything)

Just comment here if you donate and with your request.

Want a button?
My friend and I have a button maker. We'd be happy to make HP-themed buttons in exchange for $5 donations to the red cross. We can make them in 2.25 in. or 1.25 in. sizes (1.25 is cuter). Just ask for what you want! (I'll include a picture of some of the ones we made when I can). There'll be S.P.E.W buttons!

Are there any fan artists who'd allow their work to be used for this purpose?

My sisters and I gave $120 to Red Cross today. I'm not asking for anything in return, just putting it out there to encourage other people to donate whatever they can. :) And thanks to everyone who already has!

I'm willing to make an icon in exhange for any $1 donation made to a Katrina relief fund such as the Red Cross or one of these many charities.

Examples of my icons:

I will make anything you request - from any fandom. Please help out Katrina victims in anyway you can.

Offering fics in exchange for donations...
I am cross-posting my offer at fandom_charity to write fics in exchange for donations to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The going rate is $1 per 100 words, but I'm not going to hold anyone to that. I'm best at short works, and I will write het, slash, femmeslash, and gen of any rating -- basically anything except incest, threesomes, and extreme kink.

If you would like to check out my writing, my Harry/Ron fics are here and I have a Snape/Hermione fic and a Hermione/Ginny one on my fanfiction.net account.

Your mission should you choose to accept it:
Well, we're back at it again. We've all seen the effects Hurricane Katrina has had on Mississippi and Louisiana and I have no words. I have survived 2 large scale hurricanes (and one too many tropical storms) on this tiny island and even after all that I could have never imagined that so much damage could be caused. We proved during the tsunami that the HP fandom was fantastic about donating to help victims. Now we have the chance once again to help those that need it the most right now. I will again begin to offer fics and art as incentives for donations. Donations are very much needed right now over at the Red Cross (direct link to donation page) and I add my pet cause in as well (no pun intented) Humane Society because a lot of animals need help right now as well. So PIMP LIKE HELL AND GO DONATE. You did an amazing job last time, we'll do an even better one this time. <33333

(le artiste formerly known as estrellaguia

And for the cynics....last time we raised $911 (approx. because a few donations were in euros) for Tsunami victims which was AMAZING. So the effort paid off. Let's try to equal that!

It's got nothing to do with our original purpose of helping the tsunami victims, but in case anyone was interested in participating in another fundraiser for someone in need, I thought I'd pass on this link. Basically, a young man named Josh was beaten to within an inch of his life on the subway in Los Angeles, then robbed and left for dead. Miraculously, he is surviving, but has no health insurance and needs help to pay for the multiple surgeries he'll need. His brother is a member of a rock band and has organized a benefit concert, and meanwhile is looking not only for monetary donations, but also assistance with the fundraiser. They're trying to raise $20,000; they're a little over a quarter of the way there as of this post. The money they raise will be split 50-50 between Josh's medical expenses and a donation to the National Crime Victims' Association.

(Mods, you can delete this if you feel it's too off-topic, but I wanted to help spread the word about this.)

Fanfic request for shy_dramaqueen finished.
I'd like to apologize to shy_dramaqueen for the delay in finishing her fanfic, but it is now finished. She requested a Harry/Draco story set when they are much older. It is rated PG and can be read here at my LJ. I'd like to thank mamadeb for invaluable beta help. I really hope shy_dramaqueen enjoys it. Thanks!

Didn't even know
My friend, Jean, was in Tailand during the tsunami. thank god she was in more northern tailand, up in one of the more rural areas, so she wasn't affected. But she said she didn't even know that the tsunami had even happened until days later when they were watching the news. Sure, they felt the earthquake, but that wasn't enough to actually suspect something as big as that. It's really weird.

Death Toll reach 162,000
Indonesia increased its death toll by 5,000 on Sunday — pushing the overall number of lives lost to more than 162,000. The massive earthquake off Sumatra three weeks ago spawned monstrous waves that killed people in 11 countries, including more than 115,000 in Indonesia, most on the island of Sumatra.

Need another artist?
I don't have the cash to donate myself, not working atm, but I'd love to help in any way I can. I can draw, and write some fic, just tell me what you need and I'll get on it.

Second fanfic author?
I'll volunteer write fic in exchange for donations or motivation as well, following in the footsteps of rosehiptea. I will write gen fic (if I could remember what it means...), het, slash, femmeslash, and just about any ship you'd like except Fred/George. I'm just not good with Weasleys. Ah, I might not be wonderful but I promise to do my best job. Erm, I'll just link here, since I'm not well-acquainted with LJ yet.

http://fanfiction.mugglenet.com/viewuser.php?uid=2597&viewstories There's a story on here that isn't on my FF.net account, but I tend to think that most of my better-quality fics are located here.

If this shouldn't exist, just take it down.

some tsunami news
According to this article, benefit concerts for the tsunami victims are being planned for later this month. Those of you old enough to remember the 1980's will recognize the comparison to Live Aid...yeah, I'm that old. ;)

There are some new pieces of information in the big post at orderoftherose about different things people can do, such as a new fundraising bracelet (sort of like the yellow Lance Armstrong bracelets), if anyone wants to check that out.

*toddles off to -- finally -- make her donation to UNICEF*
10:55 am

I just got wind of an interesting fundraising technique that my school is doing for the Tsunami relief fund. It's called 'Stop the Bop', and basically what's going to be happening is that they will be playing MMBop by Hanson over the announcements in the morning, at breaks and at lunch etc, and they won't stop playing it until a certain amount of money has been raised for the fund.

I found it amusing.

But to make this post seem a teeny bit more credible; I have a question. If I were to be donating money through my school (and say, at home with my parents) could I still count that amount towards the money that was raised by this community?

Hope everyone had a wonderful New Year's Day. I want to thank everyone who has contributed so far, I'm sure the help will be appreciated. Also, and this is really important. Let's keep posts pertinent to the community. There are tons of other places you can advertise your community. Let's keep requests to things you want after you have donated.

And the most important part of the day: I'd like to keep a running tally of how much we've raised. So PLEASE COMMENT ANONYMOUSLY WITH THE AMOUNT YOU HAVE DONATED. That way, if you feel uncomfortable revealing that type of info no one needs to know who you are. Thanks!

Icon request...
A friend of mine just got back into town, and she's a huge Snape fan. Well, so am I, but she is much more obsessive. Can anyone make me some Snape icons? I've got some Latin phrases I think she'd like to see associated with Snape.... I want to make it a part of her New Year's present.

Aut disce aut discede - Learn or vanish
Cogito ergo doleo - I think, therefore I’m in pain.
Cogito sumere potum alterum - I think, therefore I’ll be having another drink. (must show both Snape and drink :))
Fronti nulla fides - appearances are deceiving (ugly Snapey)
Hic puer est stultissimus omnium! - this boy is the dumbest of them all!
Hunc tu cavetto - beware this man (scary Snapey)
Me oportet propter praeceptum te nocere - I'm going to have to hurt you on principle
Oderint dum metuant - Let them hate if they also fear

and my personal favorite: Qvae nocent docent - What hurts also teaches

If anyone can help me out, I'll be very grateful!

Happy New Year to you all guys! I just came up with this piece of fanart so I'm posting it here.

Okay, I dunno if I'm infringing any kind of coyprights by drawing Harry and Draco for this community and cause and if I am, please delete my entry and the fanart that's promoting donation altogether.
